Longlevens Rugby 2nds travelled to Matson RFC looking to book their place in the final of the NGC Junior Cup final at Kingsholm.
A youthful Longlevens side produced a spirited display against a more experienced Matson side.
Playing up the slope in the first half Longlevens struggled to keep possession and put pressure the on Matson line, but good defence were keeping Matson out. Matson did though manage two scores making it 12-0 at half time.
Playing down the slope and having the advantage of the wind Longlevens were still in the game.
But it was Matson who got the first score of the half, with a third try coming after Longlevens were putting pressure on Matson making the score 22-0. With the game looking out of reach for Longlevens. A further Matson score came when pressure was applied to the Longlevens scrum 5 meters out, resulting in a charge down making the score 29-0.
With 15 minutes to go and Longlevens now threw caution to wind applying width to their game, resulting in 3 tries. First try through hard working prop Mike Hosken, followed by a run in from half way for winger Alfie Turner, and a try for the emerging Euen Mulligan left the final score 29-21.
It was a spirited last 15 for Longlevens which showed what the side are capable of but they were beaten on the day by a good Matson United side with the help of experience and playing at home.
After an inconsistent season for the 2s, there were still many positives, notably the emergence of colts players into the senior group.
Well done to all who put on the shirt this season.
