Longlevens Super 2s opened their 25/26 season with a home friendly against a physical Newent 2nd team.
The super 2s made a flying start, Jaidan Vance catching Zacks opening kick off. Strong forward carries from the pack lead to strong inroads into the Newent decent resulting in a first try for Mikey Hosken.
After the blistering start, the super 2s felt a level of expectation that this was going to be a free-flowing high scoring game. However, that proved not to be the case. Whether the refs eager whistle or the strong Newent defence the Griffins couldn’t get going. But likewise, whenever Newent had the ball, the super 2s held firm with strong defensive carrying. Only leaking a soft try for a 7-7 half time score after a sustained period of pressure and a yellow card to Elliot.
The second half started just as the first finished with two sides clattering into each other. Eventually through a bit of clever play the Newent Captain managed to force his way over next to the posts for a 14-7 scoreline.
This was a welcomed wake up for the super 2s as they managed to kick into action. The griffins worked their way up the pitch and another powerful try from Mikey. From the resulting kick off Newent sent it long. Only resulting in Ed Glanville to send it back with interest for a 50:22. A strong maul followed by good ball distribution lead to Jaidan scoring in the corner with some light footwork.
This sparked the griffins going with the last 20 minutes of the game finished with Ryan and Denbo rounding off the scoring for a 34-14 final score.
Loads of positives for the super 2s to take into next week with all the young lads putting in strong shifts and stalwart Bosely putting his face where it hurts.
Due to an only 8 team league, Longlevens Super 2s have a few weeks to wait until their first league game on the 4th October away to Chelt Civil Service.
The super 2s are currently recruiting a coach and members for super 2s social committee. With seven league away fixtures this year we will be sure to make the most of it.
