Longlevens faced their local rivals from down the M5 in a closely contested battle. The last time the two teams faced off was in the Quarter Final of the World Cup back in June under very different weather conditions.

Longlevens were the first team to score after getting a scrum in the Worcester 22, a clever backs move which the boys have been working on it training came off with Connor Scantlebury going over but the conversion was missed. The next score wasn’t for a while after some good defence by both teams, Longlevens gave a penalty away which was kicked to the corner. From the following line out the ball was kicked to the 15 to between the Levens winger in the air to go over and score, but again the conversion was missed. The next 15 mins before half time neither team could get going which led to frustration and as what happens in local derbies, the tempers flared up a little bit. However just before half time Longlevens managed to get another try. After a few pick and go’s close to the line, Zack Fisher tipped the ball onto Jason Evans to crash over and score with the conversion being converted by Jordan Rankinwoodhouse on his 100th cap for the team.

The second half again was very closely contested but again due to the fantastic defence by both teams, no one could finish the chances off. Longlevens finally managed to get another score, putting some breathing room on the score line. Nathan Heaven caught the pass in a very hard position and offloaded to Connor to go over for this second but conversion missed again. Worcester were knocking on the door and nearly had another try but a fantastic try saving tackle from Connor just before the Worcester player was about to dive for the line, putting the player into touch.

The game was put to bed when Zack Fisher intercepted a pass from the Worcester player and went under the posts to score, whilst also converting the try. Worcester had another chance to score but due to a knock on in this attacking play, the ref called the final whistle.

It was a hard and competitive game, which as World Champions, Longlevens will be expecting every game they play this season but the boys fronted up and made the chances count when needed.

Next up is a charity match against Dowty’s on 4th October at home, 2pm kick off to raise money for the 4Ed foundation.
