After our close win last week against Derby, we had a short trip down the M5 to face our local rivals in Worcester. Much like the Derby game, Longlevens started the brightest, with good attacking phases, leading to the ball being passed out wide for Ethan O’Loughlin to beat the covering defence to go over and score but conversion was missed. This try woke Worcester up who started putting attacking phases of their own together however the Longlevens defence kept shutting down the opportunities which lead to Worcester attempting a drop goal which was missed. Worcester after a prolonged period of pressure, managed to finally break down the Longlevens defence to go over and score, conversion was unsuccessful so the score was now 5-5, the score stayed the same up until half time as both teams tried pushing for the next score but were unable to.
Shortly after half time, Longlevens managed to turn the ball over and hit Worcester on the counter attack, with Ethan getting the ball out wide and beating multiple defenders on the way to scoring his second of the game, with the conversion successful the score was now 12-5. Longlevens then managed to score 2 quick fire try to increase the lead. First was after Jordan Rankinwoodhouse broke the line and offloaded for Rhys Costello to go other to score. The next try was a pick and go from the bottom of the ruck, Rhys broke through a couple of tackles to go over for his second of the game. Both conversions were missed, so the score was now 22-5 to Longlevens.
As there was a significant lead, Longlevens started to let their foot of the gas, which let Worcester back into the game scoring the next two try’s but crucially both conversions were missed, leading the score to be 22-15. Longlevens managed to get the final score of the game. Rhys broke through the line and managed to offload the ball to Toby Hall to go over and score, with Toby getting the conversion. Final score was 29-15.
A great performance by the boys, but need to keep focus for the full game and not let the concentration drop to let teams back in. We now have a week off before our next game away at Melksham. Next weekend we have 3 players selected to play for the Mixed Ability Rugby Invitational team playing at the Rec in Bath against Walcot Warriors. Congratulations to George Stubbs, Saul Cowley and Jordan Rankinwoodhouse and go well lads.
