Stroud RFC U18's 21 - 19 Longlevens Rugby U18's

This was a repeat fixture from the 1st game of the season at Longford Lane where Stroud RFC provided Levens with a consistent performance and ran in 7 trys and won the game by 30 points. The longlevens team have improved massively since then and this fixture allowed the team to measure its progression in the first half of the season so far.

5 Mins- Stroud provided a good field position between the 22 and 10 yard line, after some good rucks the fly half provided a chip over the top for the Centre to collect before the bounce and run under the posts to score and easy try. Conversion was successful. Score 7-0

10 Mins – after sustained pressure by Longlevens Aquilla Tutora noticed the space out on the wing and provided a cross kick that allowed Jayden Vance to gather and sprint to the line and score. The conversion from touch line was missed. Score 7-5

25 mins – After 15 minutes of equal amounts of pressure from both teams at both ends of the pitch Longlevens were awarded a penalty 10 yards out from the line on the left-hand side of the pitch. The pre-planned Diamond Move was utilised where the forwards provided a diamond shape and ran straight lines through the pivot player, who then used a pass out the back to Jacob Holman Jones to run the angle up to the line and score directly under the posts. Conversion was successful.

Half Time Score 7-12

A number of substitutions were made at half time . The start of the second half seemed to lack the intensity of the first half and Stroud dominated possession.

40 Mins – Stroud try – Aiden went too high in the tackle and had to sit out 10 mins under a yellow card, after 2 further infringements from Longlevens , Stroud had a penalty on the 5 yard line . The Number 8 saw a gap and tapped and went over the line. Conversion was successful. Score 14-12

50 Mins – Longlevens try – With Aiden returning to the pitch and a few impact substitutions made , it seemed to provide Longlevens with more belief and after 8 phases of play from the half way line . Evan Smith picked up from a ruck 10 yds out and drove over the line. The conversion from the touch was successful. Score = 14-19

60 Mins – Stroud try – Both teams continued to play well, with passages of play at both ends of the pitch , but a long kick from Stroud and touch down over the visitors own line by Longlevens provided stroud with a scrum 5 yds out. The Number 8 picked up from the base and drove straight over to score . The conversion was successful Score = 21-19

This well matched game showed just how far Longlevens have progressed , the effort, commitment and belief has increased massively and despite this loss, the team showed they can compete with one of the best teams in Gloucestershire.
