Longlevens Rugby 2nds travelled to Minchinhampton RFC coming off the back of a decent win against Gordon league RFC 2nds last week, they were looking to get some momentum with t a league victory away from home.
Longlevens started well, and on a nice sunny day were able to give the ball width running the big Minch pack around and after a break on the far wing by full back Carlos Jenkins the ball was recycled and went from one side of the pitch to the other allowing winger Liam Davies in for the first score inside five minutes conversion missed out wide 5-0.
From the restart Longlevens were playing with confidence and looking to play rugby from everywhere on the field, this resulted in Carlos Jenkins again making a break offloading to Jaden Vance who looked like racing away to score but a high tackle stopped him. Longlevens wanting to play with pace Will Kemmett took a quick tap penalty the ball was recycled through the hands with Liam Davies again in space getting tackled 5 meters short but he popped the ball up from the floor for centre Sam Oliver to Claim the try 10-0.
Longlevens spent the rest of the half trying to play from all areas and missed several opportunities to use the overlap, but the confidence was there and the chances were being created.
The half-finished with fly half Zak Oliver claiming 3 points from a penalty from in front of the posts on the 22m line, meaning Longlevens went into the half a comfortable 13-0 to the good.
Longlevens knew they had to just keep getting the ball to the wingers and make sure they finish off opportunities created
The first score of the second half soon followed after lovely hands getting the ball from winger to winger eventually allowing Andrew Kilby to dive in under the post 20-0 with half hour to go.
From the restart Longlevens now thinking they could play from everywhere gave away a penalty for off the feet infringement, this allowed Minchinhampton to put Longlevens under their first real pressure of the game and eventually come away with a try of their own 20-5.
Longlevens needed a score for that all important fourth and bonus point try this come on the hour mark in the game excellent hands from all the team the ball found its way to second row Andrew Kilby who offloaded to Carlos Jenkins who ran in under the post for the all-important bonus point try 27-5.
The last 15 minutes was a scrappy affair with Longlevens not managing to keep hold of possession and giving away several silly penalties but to their credit they held firm and stopped Minchinhampton scoring.
It was a good away win for Longlevens and they will be looking for another win at home against Painswick next week.
Good day for the club with the firsts also getting an impressive home win.
