This week saw the Under 9s first home game of the season, with Bredon being the visitors. The game began eight-a-side with Bredon starting with the ball. A quick run for the line was stopped by a great tag from Fraser, but Bredon pushed on for the first try. Levens start and after some good passes Fraser made a good run to score our U9s first try. Bredon scored from the restart and it was clear it was going to be a quick paced end-to-end game! There were some lovely runs and passes from all the team but the Bredon side were quick and had some great runners along the wing constantly putting pressure on. At the first break Bredon led 9-5, with Longlevens tries from Stanley (1) and Fraser (4).
Longlevens came out strong and determined after the break, with Harvey making a brilliant run along the wing before being tagged on the try line, after a couple more passes Stanley put the ball down for his second try of the game. Bredon restarted but the ball was soon turned over and Fraser scored. Longlevens kept the pressure on and Captain Amelia made a lovely run for the try line before being tagged. The ball was soon turned over and Bredon scored two in quick succession. Another try from Fraser before the whistle for the break and Levens were looking strong. Longlevens 8 - Bredon 11
Third period, and it was Bredon’s turn to come out strong, scoring 4 tries before Amelia took a pass from a tag and found a gap before scoring her first try of the game. Harvey made a fantastic try after several failed attempts but he kept going & managed to find space & get through to the try line! This was followed by a try from a constantly determined John, before two more tries from Bredon. Levens were the last to put the ball down with a try from Amelia before the final whistle was blown. The game ended with a 17-12 win for Bredon, but Longlevens were unlucky not to get more. Finn and Harvey both made several more brilliant runs but just couldn’t quite get the ball down, and Arthur and Phoebe were a constant hastle in the middle of the pitch, making some good tags and passes throughout the game. It was a fast paced and physical game and the Bredon coach made a point of telling our players after the game that they had been his teams toughest opponents yet. Players of the week went to Fraser for his excellent talking as well as his try count, and to Arthur for his consistent hard work. Well done Under 9s! ⭐️
