Longlevens Rugby Colts v Old Patesians RFC Colts 23rd January 2022

Levens welcomed Old Pats to Longford Lane for a league fixture. Unfortunately, Longlevens lacked the team cohesion that had been building in previous games so against a well drilled Pats team there was a certain inevitability with what followed… After 10 minutes Pats scored from a driving lineout & the kick was good. On 20 minutes the Old Pats hooker scored from a short free kick – no conversion. On 30 minutes Levens looked certain to score from a neat chip through but the chasing player spilled the ball forwards. Frustratingly Levens had most of the territory throughout the first half but they couldn’t convert their chances & all of Pats scores were coming via Longlevens mistakes which is what happened on 34 minutes when Old Pats scored out wide with no conversion. Half time – Longlevens 0 – Old Pats 17

55 minutes Pats put the ball through the hands & score out wide – no conversion. 60 minutes Pats score again as a result of missed tackles by Levens – no conversion. 65 minutes after a period of concerted pressure by Longlevens Fred McGhee showed good strength to burst over the line for a try from a short range free kick – the conversion bounced out off the crossbar. 68 minutes Old Pats scored their best try from half way with the ball passing through the hands of both backs & forwards – the conversion was good.

Final score – Longlevens Rugby 5 – Old Patesians 39

Levs will look to put things right on the training paddock ahead of next weekend’s fixture against Cinderford. Special mention goes to Fred McGhee, James Smith & Jack Holford who along with a few others never gave up & put in a solid defensive effort each making high tackle counts.
