Longlevens travelled to play Drybrook RFC 3rds on the back of their great performance against Cinderford RFC 3rds looking to build momentum. The day started tragically with the sad news of one of the griffin family Alex Roberts tragically killed in a car crash, with emotions running high the players had an option of a week off or playing, and full credit to all the affected the decision was made to play in Alex honour.
A minute's silence started proceeding and straight from the off it was clear the Levens side was here to throw the ball around early scores coming in the shape of Henry Garner and Zak Fisher both assisted by neat play of the impressive Carlos Jenkins. Longlevens were now playing with great pace and the older Drybrook side found it hard to cope whenever Longlevens added pace to the game, and another score soon followed for Zak Fisher, before Drybrook got on the score sheet with a penalty. Longlevens were always in control and scored some lovely tries including one through Andrew Kilby. Zak Fisher completed his hat trick try and on the stroke of halftime Ollie Smith powered over leaving the half time score 34-3.
The second half was about Longlevens keeping playing and not letting Drybrook get on the scoreboard and to Longlevens credit it’s exactly what they did with second half scores through Ollie Smith with his second of the game, Carlos Jenkins, Jamie readstone but the score of the game was from James Moseley, with the forwards securing nice ball and setting up a maul the ball worked wide between backs with nice passing movement before Moseley got on the end to finish off the move. Leaving the final score 64-3
Full credit must go to Drybrook who fought all game and the score line does not reflect their commitment, but the young Longlevens team were just too quick and organised for an older team.
On a day to remember a member of the griffins family the team made him proud. The players were clearly emotional put they put all that emotion into a exciting and commanding win RIP Alex, that win is for you.
