Longlevens Rugby 2nd entertained Widden Old Boys in their first league game of the season.
This was first game in the higher league for Longlevens 2nd team showing continued improvement as a team that the seconds now play first teams.
The game started with Longlevens struggling to get any phases this was to be the theme throughout the game.
With Widden the bigger side defence was difficult to break down. Longlevens struggled to play with any fluency with frustration Longlevens were giving away too many penalties which resulted in Widden fly half who kicked well all game giving them a 3-0 lead.
With more penalties given away Widden soon found themselves in a deserved 10-0 lead.
Longlevens trying to get phases but couldn’t string things together and scrum pressure from Widden allowed them to flop over the line leaving the half time score 15-0
Second half started and Longlevens started playing and we’re forcing Widden to give away penalties and after 15 mins this resulted in a try for experienced Dave Edwards converted by Zak Oliver 15-7.
Widden managed to get two penalties leaving the score 21-7.
With 10 minutes left Longlevens threw everything at Widden but final the passes did not click full credit to the Widden defence which held firm.
With the last play of the game and Longlevens chasing the try for a bonus point the ball was intercepted by the Widden full back was ran in under the post from his own try line. Leaving the final score 28-7 to Widden.
A tough score line to be on the end of but a lot of positives with a few returning players and two debutants Rhys Costello and Will Fortey performing well in particular well.
