Longlevens Rugby seconds entertained Minchampton RFC in the opening game of their league campaign and put in a strong performance.
The opening stages there wer a few silly penalties which stopped Longlevens keeping any real pressure on Minchampton.
After 10 minutes the first score came after multiple phases, the ball found its way to Tom Carpenter (on debut) on the wide outside who showed good composure to use the 2 on 1 which allowed Liam Murphy in for his and Longlevens first score.
Next score soon followed after a lose kick by Minchampton, veteran of the team Mike Yorke made a lovely break before offloading off the floor and allowing Zach Brookes to run the second score in from the 22 both tries converted by captain Zak Oliver.
With confidence building Longlevens now scored the best try of the afternoon right from the restart with the ball being spun from wing to wing resulting in another debutant in full back Finley Garfield to get Longlevens third try of the afternoon.
With Longlevens to continue to make life difficult by giving away silly pens the game went a bit quiet but there was time for a nice score in the corner for winger Jaidan Vance leaving the score 28-0.
Longlevens disappointingly switched off and allowed the Minchampton 10 to score under the post on half time, leaving the score 28-7 at half time.
Jaidan Vance got his second of the day after half time after a neat blindside move off the back of a scrum that worked hard all afternoon against a much experience and bigger pack, Yorke drew in his last man before offloading to Vance to score in the corner.
With the game seemingly won Longlevens now switched off and allowed Minch to score 2 deserved tries of their own leaving the score 33-19.
Longlevens saw out the game and managed another score through Liam Murphy. Leaving the final score 40-19.
A good opening bonus point victory for Longlevens 2s with 5 debutants and players not playing together before there was lots of positives for the season ahead.
Next up is an away trip to Painswick RFC, with Longlevens looking to make it 2 wins from 2 #UTFG.
