Longlevens Rugby 2nds welcomed Tewkesbury RFC to Longford Lane. looking to avenge a poor result away from home just before Christmas.

Longlevens had to work hard, and the conditions played a big part with a strong wind in Longlevens face in the first half. Longlevens were finding it difficult to get out their own half, but defence was strong, with silly penalties allowing Tewkesbury to go in at half time 12-0 ahead.

Half time was about not panicking and playing in the right areas making it difficult for Tewksbury as it had been for Levens.

On the 50 minutes number eight Matt Fatica drove over from close range converted by fly half Ben Furley leaving the score 12-7.

Longlevens forwards were now getting on top of a big tiring Tewkesbury pack this resulted in a dominant scrum that made it difficult for Tewkesbury to control the game.

On the 55 minute mark Longlevens got there second try and took the lead after a penalty was kicked to touch a well set up maul allowed Matt Fatica to get his second score converted out wide by Furley meaning Longlevens had the lead for the first time in the game.

Over confidence set in and a penalty was given away in front of the post which was converted by Tewkesbury and they took the lead at 15-14.

Levens then had 15 minutes of domination and 2 scores followed killing of the game and gaining the bonus point first was after several hits up the middle making good ground the ball was spun wide to winger Jaiden Vance who scored in the corner, and converted well again by Furley, 22-15.

The game was then secured after another well worked catch and drive finished this time by second row Tom Denby 28-15.

Tewkesbury had the last score of the day with the last play after Longlevens gave away several penalties and finally resulted in their outside centre scoring on the final whistle 28-22.

It was a good result for Longlevens Rugby 2nds who managed to turn around the bad result earlier in the season and shows what the team is capable of.

The seconds are now on a good run and will be looking to challenge themselves after a week off against Widden Old Boys RFC before the Junior combination cup fixture against Old Cryptians RFC in mid-week. A busy end to the season, but the lads are going into it with confidence and some good form.
