Longlevens Rugby seconds faced Painswick RFC knowing a win would give them the league title, the game started and Longlevens were nervous they were trying to score of every play this resulted in Painswick getting the first score after 10 mins leaving the score 5-0.
The rest of the half was a tight affair with neither team managing to get a hold of the game but on the stroke of half time Longlevens managed their first try after going through a few phases Carlos Jenkins went over for the try converted by Ben Furley and Longlevens went into the halftime 7-5 ahead.
Half time it was discussed how patience was needed. The conditions worsened and neither team managed to get many phases together but Longlevens had all the territory in the second half and kept Painswick in their own half.
A great break by prop Ollie smith running twenty meters offloaded to centre Harry Huntley but sadly the play didn’t result in a try.
On the 60 minute mark Longlevens went through some phases with the forwards making the hard yards allowing fly half Ben Furley to score and convert leaving the score 14-5 and with Longlevens having a lead nerves finally calmed and last twenty the game was well controlled with ten minutes to go Furley converted a penalty leaving the score 17-5.
Longlevens looked like they would finish with a try. A well set up catch and drive looked like going over but was defended well and looked like scoring but sadly a knock on stopped the attack.
The final whistle went and the seconds had secured the league and the celebrations started, full credit to Painswick who were by far the best team we had faced all year in the league.
It was a great effort over the games which resulted in a total of 54 players used throughout the league games.
Next mission is to attempt to defend the combination cup in a few weeks time.
