Longlevens Rugby 2nd team faced Matson United RFC  at home in their fourth league game of the season the lads knew that this was going to be a step up in intensity from the previous weeks.


Matson started well by scoring in the corner conversion missed score 0-5


Matson were soon on the score board again after Longlevens kicked long but didn’t chase up allowing Matson to run back score their second try leaving Longlevens 0-12.


To the players credit they rallied and for the rest of the half Longlevens played their best rugby they had played this season going through phases and breaking through tackles forcing Matson to give away penalties allowing Carlos Jenkins to step up and get Levens first point 3-12


The next score was from Fred McGhee who managed to break through a Matson tackle and run in from 20 meters 8-12


Longlevens were now believing in themself and the next score soon followed through Carlos Jenkins jinking his way to the try line brushing off tackles. Longevens taking the lead for the first time 13-12.


On the stoke of half time Levens added to their lead with a penalty 16-12 at half time.


The second half started well getting into Matson 22m but in the space of 10 mins the game changed Longlevens discipline was wavering and Matson were being awarding penalties resulting in a matson try 16-17.


This built Matson confidence and Longlevens were made to defend hard to Longlevens credit they kept holding out Matson until eventually the defence was broken and matson score a further try 16-24.


Matson scored another try 16-29.


To Longlevens credit the last 10 minutes they were pressed the Matson line looking to gain a minimum loosing bonus point but to Matson credit they held firm and stopped Longlevens scoring.


It was a hard fought game and all (18) players fought hard ending up on the wrong side of the score line.


Next week Longlevens Rugby 2nd team will be looking to get back to winning ways away to Bredon star.
