Longlevens went into this match with four key players missing, and 22 players unavailable across the club. The fact that both the 1st and 2nd teams won by over 50 to nil shows just how much strength in depth there is at the moment.
The Griffins started the game at a great pace and camped in the Barton Hill 22 almost from the off. An attempted kick out by Barts ended up in the hands of Matt Smith on the left who manged to field and make yards. The ball was worked through the phases, right and left, before the ball went wide to Henry York. He was able to keep it alive and step back inside for the ball to be worked to Jack Cuthbert to crash over, 7-0.
The next score came following a scrum the on right, the ball was crashed up the middle and after some short plays left and right Cuthbert went over for his second, 14-0
Longlevens were now very much in the ascendancy and a penalty allowed Wilkins to ick to the corner. A line out drive from 5m out allowed 10 Jack Beck to crash Kory Holman-Jones up and the ball was spun wide left for Matt Smith to step inside three to go over, 21-0.
Captain Jed Holman-Jones was next to score after a scrum on the left. An 8 to 9 pick preceded the ball going wide out the back, this created a ruck on the right and Wilkins popped to Jed to crash over, no conversion this time, 26-0
There was time for one final score of the half, the ball being spun wide left then back right to Henry York to walk in, 33-0
The second half was more of the same of the Griffins with tries being scored at will. Following a ruck on right in the Barts 22 they kicked to clear, but the ball only went as far as York. He ran inside and offloaded to Smith who cruised through the gap to score unopposed. 40-0
The seventh try was the hattrick try for Matt Smith. A Scrum left resulted in a short crash by Kory H-J and the ball was worked wide right to Smith who stepped and went over, 45-0
The penultimate try came from Jake Fox who had been frustrated by a lack of ball all afternoon. Following a Barts knock on in midfield the ball was spun left to Fox who skinned his man to go in, 52-0
The last was a hattrick for Cuthbert who was on the shoulder of Joe Weatherley who managed to get a Sonny Bill Williams flick pass away to send Cuthbert under the posts to cap a man of the match performance, final score 59-0.
This was a good result to enter into the break with and the boys will be happy with the all round performance.
