Gloucester Girls Rugby Hub Vs Kingswood

The girls first away match took them to play Kingswood in Bristol. The Gloucester Girls got off to a flying start with flyhalf Ellie making a great break and scoring early in the game. This was swiftly followed up by Mary at 8 scoring off the base of an attacking scrum. A long period of defence followed in our 22 and several times Kingswood were kept out but ultimately went over in the corner to score. From the restart Kingswood made a great break which led to another score. Kicking was tricky in the wind and no tries were converted meaning at half time scores were tied 10-10.

The sun came out in the second half and from the kick off the ball was carried dead by Kingswood. The game was restarted with a goal line drop out which landed straight in Mary’s arms leading to a strong carry and scrum half Amelia sneaked over to score. A great conversion attempt again by Shania bounced off the upright. From there, neither team were able to build any momentum with a number of turnovers. At times the girls were a little slow off the line in defence leading to good metres for Kingswood and despite a great exit kick from Shania and tackle by winger Nataya, Kingswood snuck over for another try and the scores were tied 15-15. Gloucester Girls were unable to capitalise on some strong carrying and rucking from inside centre Kimi but then, in the final phases of the match, with an attacking scrum on the 22 a strong carry led to a second try for Mary. From the restart Kingswood managed to pressurise our girls in to a knock and from the resulting scrum a few phases later went over the try line but the ball was knocked on.

Final score Kingswood 15 - Gloucester Girls Rugby Hub 20.

Thanks to all the parents for making the trip down and we’ll look forward to welcoming Kingswood to Gloucester in December. Well done to all the girls for their efforts today.
