Longlevens second team started their league campaign in the best possible way with a good victory
against Gordon League
When the team was selected was unsure how the team would come together with players playing
out of position and missing their influential captain Martin Deacon.
Levens started in the best possible way playing down the slope first half applying pressure with
multiple phases, which resulted in a nice inside pass from Jack Robbins resulting in a try inside the
first 10 mins for Jake Fox.
From the restart the impressive Shane O’Brien playing out of position in the backrow made a
decisive break but levens lost the ball in contact. Levens defensive line all game was solid forcing
League to kick away the ball Jack Robbins ran the ball back with intent resulting in a offload To Zack
Fisher to score in the corner 14-0 inside 10 minutes and levens were looking good.
Levens now had 10 mins of complacency but still kept a solid defensive line which meant League
couldn’t get out there half eventually resulting in the impressive Ben Furley intercepting and running
in from half way, another two tries followed both by Will Kemmet. Levens were not done there for
the half, a chip and chase by Mike Yorke playing scrum half for the day meant the half time score
was 40-0
The talk at half time was very much, to not take the foot of the gas and carry on putting what has
been done in training into action. Playing up the slope Levens still played with the same fluency a
nice break by Jake fox resulted in finding Mike Yorke inside who then found Gerran Smith to finish
off a nice move.
Levens scored a further 5 tries through Jake Fox, Shane O’Brien, Tom Penham, Andrew Kilby and
final score by Zack Fisher
The major positive was last five mins league were pressing Levens line and the talk was to not let
them score and due to solid defence Levens achieved their target.
A great first game for Levens seconds with a very youthful side who gelled in this first competitive
outing of the season.
