Longlevens Super 2s ran riot at CCS Norton Rugby on Saturday, running out 113-7 winners in a dominant display built on structure, patience and ruthless finishing. This is the second time we’ve made the short trip, back in October the original fixture was postponed due to a CCS injury.
DOR Deacon warmed the team up well with some strong words. To the teams credit, they put words into action for a solid well executed warm up.
The boys carried this into the game, which turned into quite the showcase for excellent team tries. CCS led the opening exchanges but Levens finished on top when they exited and gained a scrum due to a knock on in the opposition 22. Levens retained strong possession and after 7 phases, a miss 3 from Zak Oliver put Captain Mike Yorke in space to beat 2 would be defenders to open the scoring.
From here, the super 2s never let their foot off the gas. From each resulting kick off, Levens retained possession and were patient with the ball until they could find a weak tackle or space and then exploited it with ruthless precision.
Tries came thick and fast. With Jaidan, Kory, Ty scoring twice, Huntley, Costello, Hosken, Deacon and two tries for returning scrum half Turner put Levens into a commanding half time score of 7-73.
The second half continued in similar fashion with Huntley, Deacon, McGee, Jaidan, Zak and Yorke all scoring to bring a final score to CCS Norton 7 – 113 Longlevens 2s.
Man of the match went to Fred McGhee with some strong carries but more importantly his work in loose supporting his team mates, catching kick offs and doing the hard yards at the breakdown.
DOTD was a tough call this week, all the boys put in a shift. However, Jaidan made only one pass all game. A lovely pass that found its way straight into a CCS player. For that, DOTD.
A huge team effort across the park, with plenty of confidence to take into the first home game of the season against Maston 2s next week.
