Longlevens Rugby Colts arrived in the forest of Dean in good from winning their last two games. The conditions were windy and very cold. The game started with both teams trying adapt to the conditions which resulted in a in a disjointed start. Gradually Longlevens started to enjoy more of the possession and territory. After sustained attack where the Longlevens forwards were battering the Berry Hill line, it was the opportunist scrum half Alfie Newman who wriggled over to open the Gloucester club’s account. The score galvanised the men in red to play some positive rugby moving the ball with more accuracy and the beneficiary was the exciting Fin Jones going over to score the second try of the match. This score energised the home side in action putting Longlevens under sustained pressure, with the away side giving away numerous penalties, the pressure eventually to its toll and the men in amber in black scored their first and only try of the game, making the half time score 7-10. The second have started with both sides pressing hard to gain ascendency. The effort was great to see, the Griffins eventually broke through to score their third try with some great team approach play, and Haydon Kelly going over to the delight of his teammates. The influential Josh Dingwell kicking the crucial extra two points. The home side fought manfully to score their second try clawing back the deficit, but with some stout defence the away side, line was not breached further. Making the final score 10-17., and Longlevens third win on the bounce. Considering the conditions, the game was credit to both sides.
