Longlevens RFC
Newent RFC

Longlevens travelled to Newent hoping to continue their run of wins and started in good fashion. After prolonged pressure Jack Robbins was able to get on he score sheet, and Ben Furley, returning from injury made it 0-7.

Complacency kicked in and with Newent being a big side were able to disrupt the Longlevens flow. Newent scored a converted try and then a penalty to take a 10-7 lead.

This got Longlevens going and the rest of the half belonged to The Griffins with good scrum pressure resulting in a second try for J Robbins. A further score from a well worked catch and drive followed, allowing E Fortey to flop over, leaving the half time score 19-10.

The second half was a scrappy affair but debutant E.Oloughlin scored a brilliant solo try, beating 4 defenders with good footwork and then using his pace to race clear.

Further scores followed, one for another debutant E.Downham from a pick and go, and another by the impressive sub J holford who ran a great hard line to go over and give a good foundation for the team to build on.

Newent came back into it during the last 15 minutes and scored two well deserved tries to make the final score 24-36.

It wasn’t the prettiest game of rugby but to come away from home and gain the full 5 points is a cracking return when not at your best.
