Longlevens Rugby 2nd team had a late fixture change after Berry Hill 2nds could not raise a side. Due to great work by Fixture secretary Colin Rose who arranged for Minchinhampton 1st.
Longlevens wanted to use their young pacy side to run around the big Minch side but with 3 late changes to the side it was a little disjointed both in defence and attack, But levens eventually put good phases together which resulted in the pacy full back Jake Fox who seems to score every week at the moment receiving a pass to run in from 30 meters out This spurred Minch into action and they scored 2 tries in the first half largely due to their power game proving difficult for Longlevens to control, Longlevens looked in a good position to level the scores a HT as with the last play of the half they were camped on the Minch line only for a small knock on to deny them going in with the scores level, leaving the score 7-12 at half time.
The talk at half time was we needed to keep the ball commit men to the break down and then try to use our pace out wide. To Longlevens credit they did all those things keeping Minch camped in there 22 for long periods of the half but just not being able to get over the line, which later resulted in a wayward pass allowing Minch to break up field into the Levens 22, a good chase back was to no avail as the Minch big pack eventually squeezed over for another try leaving the score 19-7, with 15 minutes to go it looked like levens were tiring and Minch were going to score again but some great determined defending resulted in a knock on which gave Levens some confidence to regroup and score a late try of their own with Carlos Jenkins on his first start for the 2s capping off an impressive display with a try in the corner with no time left to play levens fell short leaving the score 19-12 to the home side.
There was plenty of positive chat after game in what was an even contest the young levens side will only grow from playing in games like this, and the way they fronted up against wiser bigger opposition proves there will be better days to come for the this ever-improving side, pack with potential.
