Longlevens RFC

19 - 5

(HT 0-0)

Ross-on-Wye RFC

Match Report by Director of Rugby Tom Lovell:

Longlevens 19-5 Ross on Wye

Longlevens approached this game with caution, knowing that winning by 76 points, as they did earlier in the season, wasn't going to happen this time. Ross had picked up some good results and were climbing the table, so the boys knew they would be in for a tough afternoon.

Levens started quite nervy and made some uncharacteristic errors from the kick off, allowing Ross to get an early foothold in the game. They started using a limited, short game to effect and eventually opened the scoring with an unconverted try. This had the desired effect of waking Levens up and they started putting some good phases together. Fly half Jack Beck made a good break to put winger Holman-Jones free, unfortuately he dropped the scoring pass, and Beck pulled his hamstring, so not great! From more pressure a penalty was awarded, which Brad Wilkins duly dispatched to the corner. From the resulting lineout, Jake Kitson was on hand to score from the catch and drive, converted by Wilkins.

Levens then took control of the game and began to put good phases together, using their structure and game plan. Dave Edwards was on hand to score from one of these plays, taking his try tally to five in three games, impressive for a fatty.

Going into the second half Levens knew they had to score first to kill off any challenge from Ross. They did this through Brad Wilkins, who dummied his way over from five yards out, taking the score to 19-5.
