Ross-on-Wye RFC
Longlevens RFC

Ross on Wye 5-76 Longlevens

Longlevens came into this game having won both their previous games with a bonus point, however, too many points had been conceded. The target for this game was to tighten up defensively, whilst still scoring points, job done!

The instructions were to stick to structure and build phases, however straight from the kick off Philips caught, made a line break to offload to Kitson, who put Holman-Jones in wide out, converted by Wilkins. Five minutes later Wilkins scored himself following a good interchange between Rees, Collier and Kitson, followed by knocking over a pen, the score 17 nil after the first quarter of an hour.

Ross came back into the game, using their pick and go game well, however Levens defended superbly and kept them out. The game then boiled over into handbags, with Jed Jones getting a bloody nose for his troubles. This woke Levens back up and it was one way traffic for the rest of the game. Playing out of the 22, the ball found its way to Barton, he gassed the defence, cut back in and made it all the way to the try line, leaving half of the Ross team on their backsides.

Straight from the kick off the ball was worked wide for full back Nath Hooker to canter in from the halfway line. Again, from the resulting KO Kitson received, ran 60 metres to feed Philips to score, Wilkins converted all but one of the first half scores, making it 36 nil at the break.

It would’ve been understanding to switch off for the second half, given how easy Levens were finding things, but after five minutes they were over again, Captain for the day Hancock finishing off a planned line out move. Ross replied with their own line out move to go over for a solitary try, but that was all they were to get. Following a driving maul Philips went over for his second, this was followed by young winger York rounding his man well to score in the corner. Barton was on the scoresheet again following turnover ball, he burst through a gap to leave Ross defenders in his wake.

Ross were now well beaten and two final scores came from Tom Harvey, and a hatrick try from half way by Barton. Wilkins was clinical with the boot, missing only two, making the final score 5-76.

A great day at the office, followed by a boozy bus ride home, #UTFG
